Automatic model selection in Forecasting

Dear all,

i am facing some issues in performing a forecast on my materials. The first issue is that i have chosen to let the system decide the forecasting model which best fits my consumption data. The problem is that although the consumption data for my material is somehow erratic, the system decides to choose the constant model (it does this to almost all cases). In addition, when the material is maintained in meters, the system creates forecasting values with decimal digits which is not acceptable for us (nor it is logical), since you are not going to order (ie) 25,6 meters, but 25 or 30 because of the rounding value.

However, if i choose the S model, then the system creates a forecast which is very close to the consumption history, with no-error value and with no decimal digits

Why can't system read the correct (seasonal) model in the first place (automatic selection)? How can i set it up so it makes the initialisation and decides on the correct model? I have also noticed that if i choose "Forecast model using procedure 2" the system produces almost the same forecasting values, but with error value and with no seasonal index (because i have chosen Constant model i assume)

I have read that this is controlled via the forecasting strategy which is assigned to the forecasting profiles (transaction MC96), but any setting there appears to have no effect at the above (maybe because it is more SOP relevant). To be more precise, i was dealing with exactly the same situation...

Best regards and many thanks,

Nikos
